House-Senate panel rejects proposal for $17-bil in energy credits

Washington (Platts)--5Oct2004

A US House-Senate panel working to complete a must-pass corporate tax bill
Tuesday rejected a Senate proposal for some $17-bil in energy tax incentives.
The Senate proposal was a package of energy incentives meant to encourage
marginal oil and natural gas production, clean coal technology, electricity
restructuring, and consumer purchases of electricity powered vehicles and
energy-efficient appliances. It would also have provided guaranteed sponsors
for a major Alaska natural gas pipeline with a 52-ct/MMBtu price floor that
was opposed by the White House and the Canadian government.
