The Texas Railroad Commission issued 1,228 original drilling permits in July compared to 1,115 a year earlier.
The July total included 982 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 39 to
re-enter existing well bores and 207 for recompletions.
The latest group of permits included 278 oil, 409 gas, 529 oil and gas, seven injection, zero service and 14 other permits.
The Midland region was the most active for new permits, followed by East Texas,
Deep South Texas, San Angelo area, North Texas and Southeast Texas.
