Ukraine to commission new 1,000MW nuclear reactor Sat
Kiev (Platts)--15Oct2004
Ukraine's state nuclear power generator EnergoAtom is to officially commission a new 1,000MW nuclear power reactor Saturday, a company official said. The reactor 4 at the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant has already been tested at 50% capacity earlier this week, and is to be connected to the power grid Saturday, the official said. This will be the second nuclear power reactor launched by
Ukraine during the last two months. In August, EnergoAtom commissioned a 1,000MW reactor at Khmelnytskiy NPP. The launch of the two new reactors boosts EnergoAtom's power generating capacity by 14TWh annually, prompting the company to seek new markets for its electricity. EnergoAtom is Ukraine's biggest power producer. The Energy and Fuel Ministry said last week that Ukraine mulls plans to start power exports to Germany, Italy, Turkey, and Russia.
