BG looks for gas supply partner for third Egyptian LNG train

Cairo (Platts)--12Oct2004

The UK's BG group has started to increase its gas exploration in Egypt and
meet with other gas companies in a bid to find supplies for a third LNG train
planned for construction, BG Egypt's policy and corporate affairs manager
Michael Barron said Tuesday. The company is "undertaking major gas
exploration" in its West Delta Deep Marine concession and in two recently
awarded blocks in the eastern Nile delta, Barron said. "Any discoveries made
there could serve a third processing plant the company is contemplating adding
to the project," said Barron. Two trains are already under construction at the
ELNG Idku site, some 50km (31 miles) from the coastal city of Alexandria.
Barron said the ELNG project is set up so a "third party" could have a stake
in the train but he said discussions with potential gas suppliers are only
just beginning. "We've been saying for a while we're interested in a third
train," Barron said. "Very, very informal conversations happened" but "nothing
substantive" has yet come of them.
