Indonesian president urges OPEC to try to lower high oil prices

Jakarta (Platts)--15Oct2004

Indonesian president-elect Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Friday urged his fellow
OPEC members and Middle East oil producers to try to lower high oil prices,
saying the current record levels could harm both the Indonesian and global
economies, his spokesman Dino Pattidjalal told reporters. "He complained about
the high oil prices that could have a bad impact on Indonesia's and the
world's economy," Pattidjalal said.

The president-elect also voiced his hope
that OPEC could find a solution to overcome current high prices, he said.
Susilo held a meeting Friday with the ambassadors of 17 countries, including
those of fellow OPEC members Iran, Kuwait, Libya, Saudi Arabia and the United
Arab Emirates. Current OPEC president Purnomo Yusgiantoro said Thursday he
expected prices to continue to strengthen until the end of this month due to
buoyant demand.
