US regular gasoline prices jump 2.1 cts to $1.938/gal: EIA
Washington (Platts)--4Oct2004
The price of regular gasoline in the US jumped by 2.1 cts to $1.938/gal for the survey week ended Oct 4, the third consecutive weekly price increase, the US Energy Information Administration reported Monday. The latest average was 36.5 cts/gal above the average for the same week in 2003, EIA data showed. Gasoline prices typically drop in September and October on lower demand, but strong crude prices and supply disruptions in the Gulf of Mexico due to Hurricane Ivan have caused prices to buck the usual trend. West Coast prices, the strongest in the nation, led the price increases for the week, with average prices climbing 8 cts/gal to average $2.146/gal. Rocky Mountain prices gained 2.6 cts over the week to average $1.921/gal, while East Coast prices gained 2.3 cts to average $1.921/gal, EIA said. Gulf Coast prices increased 1.4 cts to an average $1.838/gal, while Midwest prices slid 1.2 cts to $1.894/gal, EIA said.
