St. Lucie-1, -2 expected to return in about a week

Washington (Platts)--27Sep2004

Florida Power & Light Co. (FP&L) said it hoped to return St. Lucie-1 and -2 to
service within "a week or so," after the units were taken off line Saturday in
advance of Hurricane Jeanne. FP&L said the hurricane did not damage its
nuclear units, but that the company did have some interruptions to its
transmission system. The St. Lucie reactors entered unusual event
classification Friday due to a hurricane warning. The unusual event, the
lowest of NRC's four categories of emergency preparedness, was terminated
yesterday, after the hurricane warning was discontinued. The units also
declared an unusual event Saturday due to the loss of off-site power. All four
emergency diesel generators started and properly loaded, according to the NRC
event notification report posted today on the agency's Web site. Both units
recovered off-site power Sunday and exited the unusual event, the report said.
FP&L's Turkey Point-3 and -4 also declared an unusual event Friday, and exited
it on Sunday after the hurricane warning for the area was lifted. Progress
Energy's Crystal River-3, also in Florida, declared an unusual event
yesterday, but terminated it early this morning, after the hurricane warning
was discontinued.
