U.S. nuclear fuel costs steady in 2003
Washington (Platts)--24Sep2004
U.S. nuclear fuel costs stayed steady in 2003 while other O&M reactor costs inched upward, according to Platts. Based on reports that 41 of 65 plant operators filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission or to the Energy Information Administration, the median fuel cost didn't budge from the 2002 level of 4.48 mills per kilowatt hour (KWH), signaling that recent increases in uranium prices haven't begun to be felt at the plant level, according to an article that will be published in the Sept. 27 edition of NuclearFuel. The Tennessee Valley Authority's Sequoyah and Watts Bar plants had the lowest 2003 fuel costs of those operators filing reports, coming in at 3.72 and 3.73 mills/KWH, respectively.
