IREC Releases 4th Edition of Connecting to the Grid Interconnection Guide

Monday, August 9, 2004

The Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) has released the latest edition of its interconnection guide, titled Connecting to the Grid: A Guide to Distributed Generation Interconnection Issues. This is the Guide’s fourth edition.

The first interconnection guide was created because states with net metering laws lacked a uniform method for interconnecting their systems to the grid despite the existence of net metering laws. The fourth edition of IREC's interconnection guide will assist those addressing the interconnection of systems ranging from residential PV to 2-MW distributed generation systems. A major addition to the new edition is the "IREC Model Distributed Generation Interconnection Procedures," which includes the latest model interconnection applications and agreements. IREC uses the Guide as a part of its many interconnection policy and training forums around the country.

An updated net metering section is included in the fourth edition of the Guide, along with expanded coverage of interconnection for larger distributed generation technologies, including technologies not normally net metered. An updated model net metering policy is included as an appendix.
