PROVO -- Provo City Power will give away 500 trees today to help customers reduce energy consumption. Trees strategically placed in yards and around homes can lower energy consumption by up to 50 percent.

Customers qualify for a free tree by having central air conditioning. Vouchers were mailed to customers who requested trees from an announcement in the utility bill newsletter. The trees will be given away on the west side of the power plant, 702 N. 300 West. Provo City Power Tree Crews will be available to answer questions and to help customers select trees.

Provo City Power maintains more than 44,000 trees, both under power lines and street trees. The tree giveaway give away is part of an overall plan the department has to help reduce costs and customer bills. Call 852-6867 for more information.
