US wind industry pushes FERC for higher grid link standards

Washington (Platts)--24Sep2004

The American Wind Energy Assoc has asked the US Federal Energy Regulatory
Commission to add special interconnection requirements for large wind
generators to the agency's existing standards for generators connecting to a
transmission power grid, it said Friday. AWEA added an Appendix G to FERC's
Border 2003-A, which gives basic guidance for power generators. The additional
standards call for FERC, the North American Electric Reliability Council,
transmission providers and utility customers to come to the table to create
uniform national standards for inter-connection between wind generators and
grid operators. "We in the wind industry need to take our place like everyone
else," said Jim Caldwell, director of policy at PPM Energy on behalf of the
AWEA. "The northeast blackout really brought this home."
