Apr. 28--Moving ahead with an initiative to promote hydrogen fueled vehicles, the Bush administration Tuesday named more than 100 companies and universities -- including UTC Fuel Cells -- that will get a share of $350 million in grants.
South Windsor-based UTC Fuel Cells, part of United Technologies Corp.'s UTC Power division, will work with ChevronTexaco and Hyundai on a five-year project to test hydrogen-fueling stations, primarily in California. The stations will fuel a fleet of Hyundai Tucson vehicles powered by UTC-made fuel cells power plants.
Specific grant amounts have not yet been determined but companies that participate will match the federal funding they receive.
