PG&E gets license to operate Isfsi
Washington (Platts)--22Mar2004
NRC has issued Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) a license to operate an
independent spent fuel storage installation (Isfsi) at Diablo Canyon. NRC said
that PG&E intends to transfer spent fuel from pools to the new Isfsi, which
will use a version of Holtec International's Hi-Storm 100 dry-cask storage
system. The new Isfsi will provide sufficient spent fuel storage capacity to
support the continued operation of the two reactors until the current operating
licenses expire in September 2021 for unit 1 and April 2025 for unit 2, NRC
said. Several groups have challenged the commission's October 2003 order
upholding an NRC licensing board's decision not to grant evidentiary hearings on
the Isfsi application.
