"The superior performance of our triple-junction solar cells under
typical European conditions offers additional cost advantages to the
customer."

Auburn Hills,
Michigan - February 19, 2004 [SolarAccess.com] United Solar, a
subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices (ECD Ovonics), received an order
for 1 MW of photovoltaic (PV) panels from ThyssenKrupp Hoesch Bausysteme
GmbH (Thyssen). The products will be used by Thyssen to address the
expanding building-integrated PV market in Germany. 500 kW has already
been shipped, and the balance will be shipped before April 2004. "The Uni-Solar products are aesthetically pleasing and can be easily integrated with the metal roofs offered by Thyssen," said Dr. Hans-Dieter Lindenblatt, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thyssen. "We look forward to working with Uni-Solar Ovonic to address the rapidly expanding PV roofing market in Germany." Thyssen has been a pioneer in introducing flexible Uni-Solar products integrated with metal pans in the German market. "Our robust and flexible thin-film solar cells are ideally suited for building integrated photovoltaics," said Stanford R. Ovshinsky, President and Chief Technology Officer of ECD Ovonics and Chairman and CEO of Uni-Solar Ovonic. "We are delighted to work with an industry leader like Thyssen to address this market in Germany." Uni-Solar Ovonic said the company's thin-film amorphous solar products for both commercial and residential applications differ from the traditional crystalline technology, which typically utilizes heavy, glass-mounted panels, because the Uni-Solar products are flexible, durable, lightweight and easy to install. "Integrating the Uni-Solar laminate to its proprietary roofing panels, Thyssen is offering to the market roofs that generate electricity and provide heat insulation. The superior performance of our triple-junction solar cells under typical European conditions offers additional cost advantages to the customer," said Subhendu Guha, President and Chief Operating Officer of Uni-Solar Ovonic. |
