Ten US companies pledge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Washington (Platts)--13Jan2004
Ten major US corporations Tuesday voluntarily set
targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions under the Environmental Protection
Agency's Climate Leaders program, EPA said. EPA Administrator Michael Leavitt
urged American companies gathered in Washington at a conference on the
two-year-old program to aggressively slash their greenhouse emissions, an EPA
spokeswoman said. The 10 companies pledging to reduce their greenhouse gas
output are 3M, Advanced Micro Devices, American Electric Power, Cinergy Corp.,
Eastman Kodak, FPL Group, Interface, Inc., International Paper, United
Technologies and PSEG. EPA also today made 13 companies -- including 3M, AEP,
Caterpillar, Kodak and Xerox -- "partners," which requires them to
reduce greenhouse emissions beyond business-as-usual for their respective
sectors. Partners must also report emissions of all six greenhouse gases from
all major emitting sites and the facilities from which they purchase
electricity.
