Dakota, Iowa utilities propose 600-MW coal plant
Knoxville (Platts Coal Trader) 16 January 2004
Five Upper Great Plains utilities are exploring five
sites in North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa for a 600-MW coal-fired power
project that could come on line between 2012 and 2014. The coalition of Basin
Electric Power Cooperative, Montana-Dakota Utilities, Minnkota Power
Cooperative, Missouri River Energy Services and Heartland Consumers Power
District said Wednesday that they banded together “to capture the economies of
scale necessary to provide low-cost reliable power and to mitigate the risks
associated with developing a large resource.” The coalition also may develop
100 MW of wind energy.
