The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) announced that the U.S. ethanol industry set a new monthly production record of 288,000 barrels per day (b/d) in January, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
According to the release, January's production represents an 8,000 b/d increase over December 2005 and a 47,000 b/d increase from one year ago. The RFA released the following statistics for January 2006: Fuel Ethanol Production was 375.6 million gallons (mg) with 288,000 barrels per day (b/d); Fuel Ethanol Use was 350.1 mg with 269,000 b/d; and Fuel Ethanol Stocks were 259.3 mg with 21.4 days of reserve (Source: U.S. International Trade Commission).

"Increased attention lately has been given to the U.S. ethanol industry's ability to produce and supply ethanol to new markets along the East Coast and in Texas," said Bob Dinneen, RFA President. "Our industry is adding capacity at a phenomenal rate and will be able to adequately supply ethanol to the markets that need it."

Currently, 97 ethanol plants have a combined production capacity of nearly 4.5 billion gallons a year. There are 33 ethanol plants and nine expansions under construction with a combined annual capacity of more than 2 billion gallons.
