Germany's Flexstrom auctions off electricity on Ebay
Freiburg (Platts)--20Apr2006
German energy trader Flexstrom is auctioning off electricity supply on
Ebay, in the first auctions using the internet purchase platform, Flexstrom
said Wednesday.
The Berlin-based trader is selling off annual power contracts, with a
starting bid of Eur1 per package.
The company said its aim was to go "an innovative way" and take a stand
against rising prices. "Power does not have to be expensive," said Flexstrom's
managing director Robert Mundt.
Flexstrom is selling power as a "single packet" (1,200 kWh) and "partner
packet" (2,400 kWh), offers of which are due to expire on April 26. Other
packets for sale are the family packet (3,600 kWh), the large family packet
(5,600 kWh) and the power packet (7,800 kWh).
Delivery costs, tax, grid access charges, metering and concessionary
costs are included in the price. Flexstrom will also take care of switching
formalities, it said.
The company said its prepay concept had enabled it to offer power at more
competitive prices than the big energy companies prepay concept. Flexstrom was
founded in 2003. It has 60,000 customers in Germany.
