The Greek government has given a huge boost to renewable energy companies
after senior members agreed to measures that make the market more accessible and
attractive to developers.
The country's development minister, Dimitris Sioufas, said the draft law would
prove to be a landmark in electricity production from renewable energy sources
such as wind power, hydropower and geothermal sources among many others.
The draft law is believed to simplify licensing procedures, raise the
guaranteed market price by 500 %, reduce licensing times and give authorities
hosting qualifying projects a financial windfall.
Greater use of renewable energy will also be encouraged through tax incentives
offered to residential, commercial and industrial users.
