Tehran, Apr 11, 2006 -- BBC Monitoring
The energy minister has said: Iran is planning to build two
thermal turn key power plants for Iraq near the border areas. The
power plans will have a capacity of 500 MW each.
Parviz Fattah told Fars: After the necessary studies,
we realized that the border areas are the best locations for
setting up thermal power plants. Thankfully, because Iraq is an
oil-rich country, we have no concerns regarding the payment for
the fuel [as received]. He said: The heavy machineries and the
power plant equipment will be transported by land because of the
proximity of the plants to the Iranian border. Our discussions
over the pas few months, since the appointment of the new Iraqi
president, have not yet solved the differences over the details of
the power plants. The energy minister said: Iran has been
following up the issue through the Foreign Ministry and we are
hoping that the Iraqi government will soon be stabilized so that
we will hold discussions with the Iraqi energy minister as soon as
possible.
