Russia's Gazprom acts as middleman in its first UK LNG delivery

London (Platts)--12Apr2006

The liquefied natural gas tanker that docked at the UK import facility at
National Grid's Isle of Grain Monday was bought by Russia's Gazprom from Gaz
de France "on the water" and sold to BP at the jetty, Gazprom and BP said
Wednesday.
"The LNG was acquired from Gaz de France and delivered to British
Petroleum, owner of capacities at the reception terminal," said Gazprom.
The vessel, the 145,000 cubic meter Maran Gas Asclepius carrying LNG from
Egypt, was Gazprom's first LNG delivery to the UK, as well as being the
biggest tanker to dock there.
The tanker was carrying almost 140,000 cu m, Gazprom said, which works
out at about 85 million cu m of pipeline gas.
The operation was performed by Gazprom's UK arm Gazprom Marketing and
Trading. BP owns half the capacity on a 20-year lease, the other half
belonging to Algeria's Sonatrach.
