Russia's Gazprom seeking Bolivian gas ventures: YPFB

Rio de Janeiro (Platts)--4Apr2006

A senior official from Russia's Gazprom told Bolivian officials
that the company was keen to participate in several Bolivian energy projects,
ranging from exploration and production to refining and distribution, state
oil company YPFB said in a statement late Monday.

During a visit by several Russian companies including Gazprom to Bolivia,
Gazprom executive Renat Iskahakov told YPFB it was interested "in helping
Bolivia to resolve its main energy problems," YPFB said.

Bolivia's government, which has recently threatened to nationalize the
country's estimated 49 Tcf of natural gas reserves, has been seeking partners
to build gas-powered industries and domestic pipelines in Bolivia.

Gazprom said in February it could also take an interest in the potential
gas pipeline to be built to ship Venezuelan gas to Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay
and Paraguay, which could also include Bolivian gas.
