April 25 --

Steel recycling in the United States jumped to an all-time high of 75.7 percent last year, a 5 percent increase from the year before, the Steel Recycling Institute reported.

About 76 million tons of domestic scrap steel was recycled both domestically and overseas, the industry association said.

Last year "continues the four-year expansion of steel recycling to new historic levels in the United States," said Bill Heenan, president of the Steel Recycling Institute.
