US copper, brass service center shipments rise in February: CBSA

Washington (Platts)--17Apr2006

Service center shipments of copper and brass products in the US continue
to climb, rising 13.6% in February over the comparable period a year ago,
according to a recent report by the Copper & Brass Servicenter Association.

Shipments of copper sheet, plate, rod and pipe rose 9.3% in February to
nearly 13.3 million lb compared with about 12.1 million lb in February 2005.
Shipments of brass sheet, brass plate and rod and bar in February, rose 6.4%
to 22.5 million lb compared with 21.1 million lb in February 2004.

Shipments of copper plate showed the highest gains among copper and
copper alloy products during February, rising 21.9% at 524,000 lb compared
with 430,000 lb last year. Shipments of 200-series brass plate showed the
steepest decline year over year, falling 28.9% to 86,000 lb in February from
121,000 lb a year ago.

Total warehouse shipments in February rose 7.8% in February to 35.8
million lb compared with 33.2 million lb a year ago. For January and February,
total warehouse shipments are up 13.6% at 73.6 million lb compared with 64.8
million lb for the same period a year ago. CBSA officials could not be
immediately reached for comment.

Unlike 2005 when many service centers did extremely well in January and
then trailed off rather sharply in February, this year's business level was
more consistent, the CBSA said.
