EPA
Concerned Over Colorado’s Carter Lake
August 23, 2006
The Environmental
Protection Agency has shown concern regarding the level of
carbon that is coming out of Carter Lake in Fort Lupton, Colo.
According to The
Tribune, the city will consider a $32,330 proposal from the Fort
Collins engineering firm, Rothberg, Tamburini and Windsor, to
study methods to reduce the drinking water disinfection
by-products.
Fort Lupton officials
plan to bring the city into compliance with EPA, as well as to
Colorado Water Quality standards.
City administrator Jim
Sidebottom told The Tribune that the drinking water is fine, but
Carter Lake has too much carbon. The city would like to find the
most cost-effective way to remedy the situation.
Fort Lupton has been
aware of the situation at Lake Carter for a while, but has not
had the time to create a plan to properly address it.
