Forecasts for 2006 Atlantic Hurricane Season

- The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Tuesday reduced the number of tropical storms and hurricanes it expects in the 2006 Atlantic hurricane season.

Other private forecasters have also revised their forecasts over the past week, mostly reducing the number of storms they expect during the June 1-Nov. 30 season. The 2005 hurricane season saw a record 28 tropical storms, of which 15 strengthened into hurricanes, including Katrina. The following are the latest predictions for 2006:

landfall in the United States. NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration) forecast revised Aug 8. CSU (Colorado State University team
led by Dr. William Gray) forecast revised Aug 3. TSR (London-based Tropical
Storm Risk.com) forecast revised Aug 4.
