Iraq to supply Jordan with 10,000 b/d at preferential
rate:report
Amman (Platts)--17Aug2006
Iraq has agreed to supply Jordan with 10,000 b/d of crude and at
preferential prices under an agreement signed earlier this week, local
newspapers reported citing Jordan's industry minister Sharif Zu'bi.
The oil which makes up around 10% of Jordan's daily oil needs, will be
carried from Iraq via Jordanian tankers, he said.
Earlier this month an Iraqi official was cited as saying that crude
supplies will start flowing to Jordan once its main refinery in Zarqa is ready
to receive Iraqi crude.
The Zarqa refinery has a capacity of 90,400 b/d and was designed to
produce a product batch leaning mainly towards heavy fuel oil.
The deal to resume oil supplies to Jordan was agreed during a recent
visit by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to Jordan, the paper reported. The
oil ministry official did not say how much crude Iraq intended to send to
Jordan.
Prior to the US-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003, Jordan received
supplies of crude from Iraq at a discounted rate of half free of charge and
half at prices below market levels.
