"Israel will expand its operations against Hezbollah. The army is ready to fulfill the objectives outlined by the government. As much as I am a man of peace, I maintain that we cannot accept an immediate ceasefire. If there is an immediate ceasefire, the extremists will immediately rear their heads. A ceasefire will return the extremists to the region."
- Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz said at a stormy extraordinary session of parliament that was repeatedly interrupted by angry heckles from Israeli Arab lawmakers, two of whom were evicted from the chamber.

"As I head back to Washington, I take with me an emerging consensus on what is necessary for both an urgent ceasefire and a lasting settlement. I am convinced we can achieve both this week."
- US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said prior to leaving Israel foe the US voicing hope that a ceasefire and permanent solution to the Lebanon crisis could be reached this week.
