Schwarzenegger, Feinstein seek federal funds for energy bills

San Francisco (Platts)--2Aug2006

California Governor Schwarzenegger and Senator Dianne Feinstein on
Wednesday asked President George W. Bush to allocate money from the Low Income
Home Energy Assistance Program emergency contingency fund to offset soaring
energy bills resulting from the recent heat wave in the state.

In a letter to Bush, Feinstein and Schwarzenegger said $100 million
in federal funding remains available from the program. They noted that some
low-income residents that already are struggling to pay electricity bills will
be hard hit by future bills because of the two-week-long heat wave.

"We think you will agree that even if temperatures and energy usage
moderates in the near future, the damage has already been done for the vast
majority of low-income households who will be faced with extraordinarily high
energy bills when they finally come due," they said.
