Green Mountain Energy Company, the nation's leading retailer of cleaner electricity products, today announced it is providing less-polluting renewable energy to several Texas retail and hospitality businesses. ClubCorp, FedEx Kinko's, Johnny Carino's, Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) and Rooms To Go have chosen to purchase cleaner electricity products from Green Mountain Energy Company for their Texas facilities. Additionally, Hyatt Regency Dallas at Reunion and Hyatt Regency DFW, and John Deere have renewed their agreements with Green Mountain Energy Company to purchase renewable electricity for their Dallas-area facilities. Dallas-based ClubCorp is purchasing renewable energy from Green Mountain Energy Company for 27 of its private business and country clubs as well as public golf clubs in Dallas and Houston. FedEx Kinko's FedEx Kinko's is increasing green power usage for 56 of its stores in Texas by purchasing renewable energy from Green Mountain Energy Company. The company currently purchases green power for more than 520 of its locations nationwide. Hyatt Regency Dallas at Reunion and Hyatt Regency DFW International Airport The Hyatt Regency Dallas at Reunion and Hyatt Regency DFW are once again purchasing cleaner, 100 percent renewable electricity. These two signature hotels in Dallas have renewed their contracts with Green Mountain Energy Company. As a result of these purchases, both hotels are Dallas' only commercial purchasers of 100 percent renewable electricity and one of the nation's leading hospitality industry purchasers of green power. Johnny Carino's Austin, Texas-based Fired Up, Inc., owner, operator, and franchisor of Johnny Carino's Italian restaurants, is purchasing renewable energy from Green Mountain Energy Company for 28 of its Italian restaurants in Texas. The locations are primarily in Dallas and Houston. This is the first time Johnny Carino's is purchasing renewable energy for its operations. John Deere John Deere, one of the world's leading manufacturing companies, has renewed its purchase of renewable energy from Green Mountain Energy Company for its distribution facility in Northwest Dallas. REI Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI), a national retail cooperative providing quality outdoor gear and apparel to outfit its members for a lifetime of outdoor adventure, is purchasing renewable energy from Green Mountain Energy Company for four of its Texas stores -- two in metropolitan Houston and two in metropolitan Dallas. The energy purchase is part of REI's larger green power purchase, representing 17 stores and 20 percent of the company's national electricity usage. Rooms To Go Rooms To Go, a national furniture retailer, is purchasing renewable energy from Green Mountain Energy Company for 11 of its stores in the Dallas-metropolitan area. This includes Rooms To Go and Rooms To Go Kids Stores. "More and more mainstream businesses are choosing to purchase cleaner, renewable electricity for their operations," said Scott Hart, president of Green Mountain Energy Company's Commercial Services division. "These businesses, like many across the nation, are realizing that green power is good for the environment, good for their business and good for their budgets." Renewable energy or green power is derived from any natural, non-fossil fuel resource that continually replenishes itself over time. Sources of renewable energy include the wind, water and the sun. FedEx Kinko's, Johnny Carino's, John Deere, REI, Rooms To Go, and the two Hyatt properties participate in the U.S Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Green Power Partnership, a voluntary partnership between the EPA and organizations interested in buying green power. More than 620 U.S. organizations are currently participating in EPA's Green Power Partnership. FedEx Kinko's and REI both appear on EPA's top 10 list of retail Green Power Partners. "EPA applauds our Partners for their green power purchases," said Matt Clouse, director of EPA's Green Power Partnership. "These purchases serve to promote the development of new renewable generation facilities, which further helps reduce the risks associated with climate change." As a result of their green power purchases, these businesses are helping to reduce their share of pollution from carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. In fact, over a one year period these businesses are able to collectively offset an estimated 71 million pounds of C02 through their collective purchases of an estimated 51 million kWh of renewable energy from Green Mountain Energy. That is like not driving over 78 million miles or taking more than 6,300 cars off the road annually. For commercial customers who have operations that are not based in states open to competition, Green Mountain Energy Company recently launched its eMission Solutions division that offers a portfolio of carbon reduction services for commercial and institutional sector clients looking to improve their environmental position.
