Ford Motor Co. says hybrid versions
of four vehicles - the Ford Five Hundred, the Mercury Montego, the Ford
Edge and the Lincoln MKX - will be available some time between 2008 and
2010.
News about the hybrids came as part of Fordīs long-awaited
restructuring plan, which the company announced Jan. 23.
Ford said it will idle 14 manufacturing sites, including seven
vehicle assembly plants, by 2012, and 25,000 to 30,000 people will lose
their jobs.
The company already has hybrid models of the Ford Escape and Mercury
Mariner and plans to debut Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan hybrids in
2008.
Ford said it plans to build 250,000 hybrid vehicles per year by 2010.
