Gas supplies from Russia to Europe fully restored: Yushchenko
Sydney (Platts)--3Jan2006
Gas supplies from Russia to Europe through Ukraine have been restored
completely, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said during a half-hour
telephone conversation with Polish President Lech Kaczynski, according to a
report late Monday from news agency ITAR-TASS, monitored by the BBC.
"Yushchenko told his Polish counterpart that, two hours after Russia
restored its gas supplies, supplies to European consumers were restored as
well," the presidential press service said.
Yushchenko also told Kaczynski that Ukraine observes its international
commitments and ensures uninterrupted transit of gas to Western Europe, using
its own reserves. Kaczynski said that the Polish government would discuss the
gas issue at its meeting on Jan 3.
Meanwhile, the normal level of pressure has been restored in the gas
pipeline which reaches Hungary via Ukraine, Sandor Kantor, business and
strategic communications manager at Hungarian oil company Mol Rt told local
news agency MTI in a separate report monitored by the BBC.
Earlier Monday, Russia's Gazprom said it was looking for ways to restore
gas exports to European countries in full by Tuesday evening, despite
continued "stealing" of Russian gas by Ukraine.
