Gasoline, energy prices still 'too high': White House

Washington (Platts)--24Jan2006
Gasoline prices, and energy prices in general, remain "too high," the
White House said Tuesday, suggesting that energy and health care costs have
kept a lid on US economic expansion.

"Gas[oline] prices continue to be too high. Energy prices continue to be
too high. And American families are concerned about health care costs," White
House spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters, according to a transcript of
his remarks.

McClellan said the White House would be urging Congress to continue to
build upon some of the steps the Bush Administration has already taken to
address rising energy costs.

"We need to continue to build upon the pro-growth policies we've put in
place. We need to continue to build upon what we have done to address the root
causes of high energy prices, our dependence on foreign sources of energy. And
that's what we have done and that's what we will continue to do," McClellan
said. "We've passed a comprehensive energy strategy just this past summer.
That was a significant step, but there's more to do." he said.
