LNG's unstable, too

Jan 26, 2006 - Providence Journal Bulletin

In your Jan. 20 editorial "Carcieri's wind plan," you boldly predicted that many people with waterfront views in Rhode Island would behave like those who have stood in mindless opposition to the Cape Wind project, on Nantucket Sound. Let's hope you overestimated such selfishness.

You also implied that a liquefied-natural-gas terminal in Rhode Island would somehow provide more energy security than relying on gas piped in from Canadian terminals. You didn't mention that the sources of LNG are some of the most unstable regions of the world. Any energy plan that depends on imported LNG is vulnerable to outside pressures.
