Auto parts maker aims to cut landfill waste by 75%


 
March 16 -- Denso International America Inc., an automotive parts manufacturer, has released a five-year environmental plan for its North American operations that aims to cut landfill waste by 75 percent.

Denso, based in Southfield, Mich., plans to cut that amount of waste based on 1999 levels and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 18 percent at its manufacturing facilities. The company said it also aims to reduce emissions of regulated hazardous substances at its manufacturing sites by 30 percent from 2000 levels.

Concerning its products, Denso said it plans to reduce its use of resources and environmentally hazardous substances such as mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium.
