Broader
hazardous waste definitions lead to increased volume in Europe
March 30 --
Hazardous waste volumes are increasing in Europe
as many countries have expanded the definition of what types of waste
fall into the hazardous waste category, consulting firm Frost & Sullivan
said.
This broader definition of hazardous waste also is creating more
demand for waste management services, the company said.
Other factors influencing the market include landfill disposal
restrictions for the waste as well as hazardous waste treatment changes,
Frost & Sullivan said.
The company estimated the hazardous waste management market was worth
$7.67 billion in Europe in 2004, and that number should increase to
$8.68 billion in 2011.
