"The stakes are enormous," said Conference Producer Winnie Yang, senior
project manager at China Decision Makers Consultancy, the conference's
organizer. "More developed countries like Japan and the United States
continue to use more and more energy, while billions of people in India
and China are just beginning to use energy.
Some analysts in the industry fear that many countries have overstated
their proven reserves of oil, natural gas and coal," Yang continued. "If
this is the case, then, in addition to practicing better energy
conservation, we should exploit alternative sources of energy, like
nuclear, solar and wind power and biomass energy even more quickly than
before."
Looking at the growing energy use in just one country - China - can be
sobering.
2006 is bound to be an exciting period of development for the renewable
energy industry. The perfect storm is brewing in renewable energy with the
implementation of the Renewable Energy Law and its pricing and fee-sharing
rules for on-grid renewables; the renewed target of 130GW electricity from
renewable by 2020, and the increased market acceptance of renewable
technologies and services.
In addition, power grids development is drawing more and more attention
due to the serious imbalance between power T&D and power generation caused
by a number of factors, including improper governmental incentives and
underinvestment.
