Kuwaiti oil minister announces 35 Tcf gas find in northern Kuwait

Kuwait City (Platts)--6Mar2006
Five recent oil and gas fields in northern Kuwait hold a combined 35 Tcf
of gas and 10-13 billion barrels of light crude, Kuwaiti oil minister Sheikh
Ahmed Fahed al-Sabah said Monday.

Announcing details of a six-month test program, Sheikh Ahmed said oil in
the Sabriya, Umm Niqa, Bahra, Northwest Rawdatain, and Rawdatain fields could
increase Kuwait's existing 99 billion oil reserves by about 10%.

"According to the initial results of the study, there is a potential for
free gas in place of approximately 35 trillion cubic feet. This quantity exist
in large areas that, in geographical size, equal the Greater Burgan field,"
Sheikh Ahmed said.

He said, following testing assisted by Schlumberger, the fields are
believed to have recovery rates of between 60-70%.

"It's light oil about 10-13 billion barrels in place. The new oil will
add almost 10% to our present reserves," Sheikh Ahmed said.

He said gas is currently flowing from Umm Niqa and Sabriya fields at
16-20 million cubic feet/day. He said the two fields are also producing
between 2,200 to 4,000 b/d of associated condensate.

A total 112 million cf/day oil gas is currently being produced at all
five fields which lie 80-100 km north of Kuwait City.
