March 21 -- Some U.S. companies are recognizing the global warming
issue and addressing it with changes at their firms, while others are
lagging, according to a study released today by the Ceres investor
coalition.
The report is the first that the investor group has published
analyzing how 100 companies are addressing the increasing financial
risks and opportunities presented by climate change. The report,
"Governance and Climate Change: Making the Connection," profiles 76 U.S.
companies and 24 foreign corporations in 10 business segments.
Ceres used a 100-point scoring system to rank the largest companies
in the oil and gas, electric power, automobile, chemical, industrial
equipment, mining and metals, coal, food products, forest products and
air transportation sectors.
