NYC launches Great American Cleanup ´Stomp Out Litter´ campaign
 
March 21 -- New York City kicked off its part of the Great American Cleanup on Tuesday by unveiling the city´s new anti-litter campaign called "Stomp Out Litter."

The campaign includes public service announcements and print advertisements shot around the city featuring the percussion band Stomp.

"The Department of Sanitation is very proud to launch the Stomp Out Litter campaign, whose objective is to eliminate, once and for all, littering in New York City," Sanitation Commissioner John Doherty said.

The anti-littering campaign was unveiled as part of the Great American Cleanup activities at Times Square

The Great American Cleanup, organized by Keep America Beautiful across the country, is expected to involve 2.5 million people this year in all 50 states.

 

Report: Some U.S. firms acting on climate change, others lagging

March 21 -- Some U.S. companies are recognizing the global warming issue and addressing it with changes at their firms, while others are lagging, according to a study released today by the Ceres investor coalition.

The report is the first that the investor group has published analyzing how 100 companies are addressing the increasing financial risks and opportunities presented by climate change. The report, "Governance and Climate Change: Making the Connection," profiles 76 U.S. companies and 24 foreign corporations in 10 business segments.

Ceres used a 100-point scoring system to rank the largest companies in the oil and gas, electric power, automobile, chemical, industrial equipment, mining and metals, coal, food products, forest products and air transportation sectors.
