OfficeMax to install
kiosks for refilling of printer cartridges
March 27 --
OfficeMax Inc. is installing kiosks at nearly 900
stores to allow customers to refill empty printer inkjet cartridges,
which could save them hundreds of thousands of dollars while benefiting
the environment.
The service will save consumers up to 50 percent over buying a new
cartridge. An OfficeMax employee manning the filling station will run a
diagnostic check to ensure that the cartridges are reusable and to
remove leftover ink before refilling them.
Cartridges can be recycled four to 10 times before having to be
recycled. The program will eliminate thousands of pounds of plastic
waste, said Ryan Vero, executive vice president and chief merchandising
officer for the Itasca, Ill.-based office products company.
