16) Global Climate, Antarctic and the Arts The National Science Foundation requests proposals for the Antarctic Artists and Writers Program.

This opportunity is part of the International Polar Year, which promises to advance our understanding of how the Earth's remote polar regions impact global climate systems. This program seeks to increase public understanding of the Antarctic region, including the continent and the surrounding oceans, as well as the associated NSF Antarctic research and education endeavors. Awardees will have the opportunity to travel to Antarctica at research stations, field camps, and aboard ships to make the observations necessary to complete their proposed projects.

17) NSF SBIR/STTR

The National Science Foundation requests applications for the FY07 Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Programs Phase I (SBIR/STTR). This program seeks to stimulate technological innovation in the private sector by strengthening the role of small business concerns in meeting Federal R&D needs, increasing the commercial application of federally supported research results, and encouraging participation by socially and economically disadvantaged and women-owned small businesses.

Proposed project should provide evidence of commercial viability and meet an important social or economic need. Broad areas of interest include: Advanced Materials, Emerging Opportunities, Information Technology and Manufacturing Innovation. $16.25 million expected to be available, up to 150 awards anticipated. 18) Partnerships for Innovation

The National Science Foundation requests proposals for the Partnerships for Innovation Program (PFI). PFI stimulates the transformation of research and education into innovations that create new wealth, build strong local, regional and national economies and improve the national well-being. PFI proposals must be submitted by academic institutions, however, partnerships are required.

$9 million expected to be available, up to 15 awards anticipated.

19) Energy Efficiency Programs in California Southern California Edison (SCE) announces its intent to request proposals for the implementation of energy efficiency programs as part of SCE's Innovative Designs for Energy Efficiency Program (InDEE).

The intent behind InDEE is to solicit new programs for promising technologies and concepts that save electric energy and reduce electric peak demand. InDEE focuses on emerging technologies and processes or other concepts for which product introduction and commercialization are justified. $1.8 million expected to be available, individual award range $300K to $500K.
