APS plans to add 30 MW of wind power, developer says
Portland, Maine (Platts)--4May2006
Arizona Public Service plans to add up to 30 MW of wind power to its
portfolio, on top of 15 MW already under contract with Western Wind Energy,
the wind project developer said Thursday.
The deal is for an additional 25 MW, but if there is enough capacity
in the transmission system, the agreement would go to an additional 30 MW,
said Western Wind, based in Coquitlam, Canada.
The added power will be generated from Western Wind's Kingman Steel Plant
facility near Kingman, Arizona.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The original 15 MW contract was for
ten years.
The two companies have not yet agreed on final details on the extra
capacity but Western Wind expects to sign a final agreement within 60 days,
the company said.
Western Wind has more than 185 MW at various projects in production or
development, the company said. Earlier this week, Western Wind received a
favorable ruling from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission,
allowing Western Wind to acquire transmission services so the company can
deliver 120 MW to Southern California Edison, the company said.
