LITTLE ROCK-- Arkansas Attorney General Mike Beebe has rejected a proposed
ballot measure to replace all public transit and school buses with
hydrogen fuel vehicles. Beebe said today that the measure's language was
too vague.
Barry Lee Emigh of Hot Springs is trying to get the proposal on the November Seventh ballot. Certification by Beebe's office is necessary before Emigh can gather signatures for the proposal. Under the measure, a special motor vehicle tax would be levied at the state and local level to pay for the new hydrogen fueled vehicles and the necessary equipment for them. Beebe's office cited several ambiguities
in the proposal, including uncertainty over how the tax would be levied
and when it would take effect. |
