The Green Grid is an open, global consortium whose goals are to decrease
data center and other IT facility energy usage patterns by defining and
propagating best practices in data center operation, construction and
design. With support from the Environmental Protection Agency and Alliance
to Save Energy, The Green Grid is ultimately intended to serve as an
interactive resource for IT professionals; a forum for sharing proven
practices in data center energy management as well as working with other
organizations to identify new industry-standards and metrics related to
energy.
"Thermal efficiency and reduced power consumption have been a key focus
for Rackable Systems since our company’s inception," said Tom Barton, CEO
of Rackable Systems. "As a pioneer in designing and developing energy
efficient servers and storage, we are excited by the opportunity to
further contribute to the industry by helping to direct the efforts of The
Green Grid."
"The Green Grid is pleased to have the support and commitment of these
companies as we work with the world’s top server manufacturers to champion
best practices and energy management in the data center," said Kevin Knox,
vice president, Commercial Business at AMD, a founding sponsor of The
Green Grid.
