US uranium production up 18% in 2005

US uranium production increased to 2.7 million pounds U3O8 in 2005, an 18%
increase over the 2.3 million lb produced in 2004, according to data collected
by DOE's Energy Information Administration. EIA also noted that employment in
the uranium production industry increased by 52% in 2005 to 638 person-years,
from 420 person-years in 2004. Total uranium industry expenditures for
drilling, production, land, and other purposes were an estimated $134 million
in 2005, 54% more than in 2004, EIA said.
