US utility power output rises 3% in week ending April 29: EEI

Washington (Platts)--3May2006

US utilities generated 68,651 GWh of power in the week ending April 29,
3% above the total generated in the same period of 2005, the Edison Electric
Institute said Wednesday.

The weekly total was 453 GWh below the 69,104 GWh generated in the week
that ended April 22. In the corresponding week of 2005, a total of 66,632 GWh
was generated, EEI said.

Output rose in seven of the nine regions EEI assesses, with the largest
rise coming in the South Central region, where generation totaled 10,538 GWh,
or 8.8% above that generated in the corresponding week of 2005. The next
largest rise came in the Pacific Northwest, where output totaled 2,609 GWh,
6.4% above generation in the same week in 2005.

Output fell only slightly in two regions: New England saw a 1% decline
from the comparable period of 2005 with total generation of 2,243 GWh, while
the Mid-Atlantic had total output of 7,426 GWh, 0.2% below that generated in
2005.

The numbers are based on generation from investor-owned utilities,
cooperatives and government-owned utilities.
