Colorado MRF 1st recycling facility in U.S. to gain green certification
 
Sept. 11 -- Summit County, Colo.īs material recovery facility is the first recycling plant in the nation to receive recognition from the Green Building Initiative.

The Green Building Initiative recognized the facility with two Green Globes under its environmental assessment and ratings system for commercial buildings during the plantīs grand opening Sept. 8. The 11,000-sq.-ft. recycling plant is the first in the nation to be built green, using salvaged and recycled materials in its construction and employing heat recovery technologies.

The MRF is run independently, allowing any area haulers to drop off mixed recyclables for sorting and processing.
