Conn. city gets grant
to buy hydrogen fuel cell-powered transit bus
Sept. 1 --
Hartford, Conn., will be the home to New Englandīs first hydrogen
fuel cell-powered transit bus in 2007.
UTC Power of South Windsor, Conn., will supply the 40-foot vehicle to
the Greater Hartford Transit District and provide two years of support
for the vehicle. That will include use of a hydrogen refueling station,
the company said.
The Federal Transit Administration is providing a $2.9 million grant
to the transit district to pay for the bus and the needed
infrastructure.
"With Connecticut being a center for fuel cell technology
development, it is only fitting that Hartford have New Englandīs first
fuel cell bus," UTC Power President Jan van Dokkum said. "We hope it is
the first of many."
