Earth Biofuels to rebuild ethanol plant near New Orleans

Sept. 5 --

An Earth Biofuels Inc. subsidiary has agreed to buy 50 percent of South Louisiana Ethanol LLC, which owns a mothballed ethanol production facility near New Orleans.

Earth Ethanol Inc. plans to reconstruct the Plaquemines Parish, La., ethanol plant, located 9 miles southeast of New Orleans. The company expects to complete the project by the third quarter of 2007. The facility will have the capacity to produce at least 65 million gallons of corn-based ethanol per year.

The plant is located on the Mississippi River and within the Gulf Opportunity Zone, an area the federal government has targeted for rebuilding through tax incentives after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
