Prevention programs
cut pollution by 6 billion lbs. from ´01 to ´03
Sept. 15 --
U.S. pollution prevention efforts resulted in pollution reductions
totalling 6 billion pounds from 2001 to 2003, according to a study
published this month by the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable.
The group evaluated 29 regional, state and local pollution prevention
programs to measure the impacts of such programs nationwide. It found
that the programs also reduced energy use by 1.2 billion kilowatt-hours
and conserved more than 44 billion gallons of water. The economic
benefit of pollution prevention efforts added up to more than $500
million, according to the report.
More information and a copy of the report can be found at NPPR´s Web
site, www.p2.org. NPPR´s mission is to promote pollution reduction
efforts at the source by providing a national forum to promote the
development, implementation and evaluation of pollution prevention
programs.
